Volunteer Opportunity: Director of Social Media


Position:

The TLAN Director of Social Media will be a 5-10 hours per month position reporting to the Managing Director. The Director of Social Media will be a volunteer position and will work remotely

The ideal candidate will have strong writing and graphic design skills, and display an interest in social media and advertising. Applicants should have had success at building a social media following, will know how to use tools for social media planning, and are engaging team members who expect to play a strong role in creating original digital content across various social media platforms. The ideal candidate will be committed to the values of the Transformative Language Arts Network and understands the necessity of arts across all areas of life and work.

Responsibilities/Opportunities:

  • Develop and create social media assets, including: developing appropriate messaging, graphics, videos, and memes;
  • Research relevant content to share across channels;
  • Plan, schedule, and organize posts on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram;
  • Study social media trends and work with Managing Director to design and implement social media strategic plan.
  • Attend Power of Words Conference & Pre-Conference, and attend 2-3 TLA Network classes, free of charge.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience in public relations, communications, marketing, English, multimedia, or similar background;
    • Social media management experience;
    • Demonstrated strong communication skills in writing and editing;
    • Demonstrated graphic design skills for online promotions;
    • Strong organization and time management skills;
    • Driven and motivated to learn;
    • Creative problem-solving skills;
    • Experience using Canva and Buffer (or similar social media scheduling tools);
    • Computer and internet access;
    • Capable of independently managing time and the tasks associated with a small but ambitious organization, including flexibility to switch between tasks easily.

    Preferred Qualifications: Preference given to candidates with experience in Transformative Language Arts and non-profit organizations.

    Timing & Compensation:

    The position is a part-time volunteer position, up to 10 hours per month.
