One City One Prompt

One City One Prompt is a dynamic series of writing, performance, activist and community-building events held across the globe for people to gather to write, tell stories, perform, or discuss a common theme. OCOP cultivates greater civility, deeper dialogue, higher hope, and a larger sense of personal and community purpose. Participants can share their responses on this website, weaving each unique event together so we can discover our shared and diverse voices.*

What's this year's theme?

Amplify. To amplify means to make larger, greater, stronger. Explore the transformative power of voice, writing, and storytelling — ours individually and collectively — through poetry, song, or prose as we contemplate questions like: What gives us the courage to make our voice and our life larger? How can we use our voice to bring awareness and positive change? What have we left barren or hidden that’s dying to be seen? What’s necessary to make us, our communities, and our world stronger?

When and where?

This fourth cycle of OCOP will be held March 1 – May 31, 2017. See upcoming events here!

Can I be a OCOP host?

YES! All you need is some fire and passion, imagination and vision. The Transformative Language Arts Network will support you with promotional materials, ideas for topics, venues, coaching, cheerleading, and applause. You get to decide your own way to bring people together to riff off the theme, whether through a writing workshop, storytelling circle, salon, or multi-arts exploration. See below to get started!

How are OCOP events documented?

If you host an event, you can upload photos, samples of writing, video, audio, etc. on the public OCOP FB group page (with permission from participants). If you participate in an event, ask your event host to forward whatever you would like posted.

* Unfortunately, our original website for OCOP got infected by malware and cannot be updated. You can see previous year's events and creations here on the old site.

Host a Gathering in Your Community

Offer your own One City One Prompt event, and receive mentorship in organizing, marketing, and facilitating a workshop, discussion, presentation, party, or other event. Here’s how in three easy steps:

Step One: Get the Scoop — Visit and join the public OCOP FB group - find supporting documents, inspiration, and more. Also, we have a OCOP guidebook with information on how to design and organize your event, logistics planning, outreach, effective facilitation, consent forms, and even templates for flyers and other marketing materials. Click here to download the 2017 One City One Prompt Guidebook (PDF).

Step Two: Get in Touch — You can email or talk on the phone with Jacinta White, who has been successfully organizing multiple OCOP events and is happy to share advice and inspiration with you. Write Jacinta at ocop@tlanetwork.org to chat via email or set up a phone meeting. Additionally, you can post in the public OCOP FB group and chat with other facilitators and participants.

Step Three: Create a FB event — On the public OCOP FB group page, there is an "Events" tab where all OCOP events are displayed. Click on "Create Event" and fill it out, invite friends, and spread the word!

Step Four: Share Your Event Creations — You can upload and post writing, video, audio, and photos from your event on the public OCOP FB group page! Feel free to also write about, or have a participant write about, what happened at your event. Share this group page with your participants so that they can see their creations and interact with other OCOP participants around the country. Please contact director@tlanetwork.org if you have any trouble.
